For this project, I collaborated with the talented art director at MSNBC and NBC News Marketing to create a new visual identity for the MSNBC logo, specifically designed to be used as an end-of-show ID. The challenge was to craft a dynamic 3D animation that would seamlessly integrate into the closing moments of news segments while strengthening the MSNBC brand.
Objective
The primary goal was to elevate MSNBC’s branding with a modern, sleek animation that would enhance its trusted, news driven identity. The animation had to be both visually engaging and polished, embodying the professionalism of the network while still conveying a sense of excitement.
Creative Approach
The task was to update the MSNBC logo with a 3D animation that felt fresh yet aligned with the existing brand identity. The animation needed to maintain authority while feeling modern and engaging.
Design Elements: Starting with the existing MSNBC logo, I explored various animation techniques that would deliver smooth, clean transitions. The goal was to communicate professionalism, confidence, and sophistication, while also ensuring the animation didn't overshadow the content but rather complemented it.
Lighting & Textures: Using Cinema 4D with Redshift rendering, I applied realistic lighting and textures to give the logo depth and dimension, ensuring it would stand out in the broadcast environment. The lighting choices were essential for bringing the logo to life while maintaining clarity and visual impact.
Technical Execution
Tools Used: The animation was crafted using Cinema 4D combined with Redshift to achieve high quality 3D visuals that were both fast to render and visually stunning. Redshift’s photorealistic capabilities allowed me to meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.
Compositing in After Effects: The final animation was brought into After Effects for compositing, where I refined the motion and ensured smooth integration with other show elements. This process allowed me to perfect the timing and add the finishing touches, ensuring the animation looked seamless in its final broadcast form.
Outcome
The completed 3D logo ID became a key visual element in MSNBC’s show branding, featured at the end of news segments to reinforce the brand’s identity. The animation's sleek, polished look helped elevate the network’s professional image while adding a dynamic visual that engaged viewers.
